April 2022 release 3 (22.04_03)


A little patch release leading on from the April preview, but there's some juicy bits in here too! And yes, I know there was no official "22_04.02" release, but I snuck that in immediately after 22_04.01 to fix a bit of a game-breaking bug! Tut-tut to me for not at least checking the build before pushing it out!

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue in the first April release (22_04.01) that caused the game to start with time frozen! Woops!

New features / enhancements

  • Updated the font used in the game, following feedback on the "all caps" Ringbearer font in the previous release. This new script based font  ("Goudy Mediaeval" in case you're wondering) is much easier on the eye, though feedback on this is welcome!
  • Added a Boss Battle and end-game scene. This is not accessible via the main game just yet, but there is a new "console cheat" to allow you to play. Just open the debug console (0 on the keypad) and enter "bossbattle".
  • The Boss Battle demonstrates the new "Location Based Damage" - try aiming for the head!
  • Tweaks to AI, including a change that should prevent AIs from "seeing" through the terrain and some tuning of walk and run speeds.
  • Added "Graphy" component to give useful run-time performance feedback. You can enable this with "ctrl + h" and disable by doing the same again. Interested to hear what sort of FPS folks are getting.
  • I've restored ACES tonemapping as the default setting. It's kind of dark in interior scenes, but I think it really works well in outdoors. I'll look at tweaking the indoor volumes in future, try to get the balance right.

Internal

  • Update of TVE to the latest build

Known Issues

  • As before in version 20_04_01.
  • There is a bug that causes screen corruption if you run the game in a resolution other than your native display resolution. This is a bug in the new Enviro version, related to sun and moon rays. It's known to the author, and I'm awaiting a fix.
